Hounsfield Supervisor Welcomes Galloo Island Wind Project

A few miles can make all the difference when it comes to the issue of wind power.

The Henderson town supervisor hopes the latest Galloo Island wind power proposal will fail.

But his counterpart in the town of Hounsfield feels just the opposite.

Hounsfield Supervisor Tim Scee says the $700 million project would bring in millions of dollars of badly-needed tax revenue - and not just to the town, but also to the Sackets Harbor School District and Jefferson County.

"People living off-shore up near Antwerp or wherever, you could see a benefit from this windmill farm out on the middle of Lake Ontario," said Scee.

Upstate NY Power has submitted a new plan that explores the possibility of selling electricity to Fort Drum.

The power would be wheeled across the town of Hounsfield on a transmission line that would be fully taxable.
