Ice Breaking Underway On St. Lawrence River

It's a sure sign spring is almost here - the St. Lawrence Seaway will be opening to ship traffic on Friday morning.

This week, ice breakers will be making their way up and down the St. Lawrence River to ensure a safe passage for ships.
This means the ice will be unstable - even in the river's many ice-filled bays and inlets.
Ice fishermen, snowmobilers and ATV  riders are being told to pay attention to changing ice conditions, particularly near Eisenhower and Snell locks in Massena.
