In Canton, Thieves + Unlocked Cars Equal Trouble

If you live in Canton, lock your car.

Thieves have made off with close to $1,000 worth of change and other items, including GPS systems, cameras, credit cards and cash. The thefts have come from more than a dozen unlocked vehicles in the village in the last couple of weeks.
Many of the thefts took place in the Judson Street-Goodrich Street area of the village, though it now appears the thefts are spreading to the Pine Street-Miner Street area.

"It started on the north side of town; this week it's continued to the south side of town," said Kevin Mousaw of the Canton village police department.
Village police said they don't have any suspects yet.

"The incidents are so similar that it's likely it could be the same individual or individuals rummaging throuigh vehicles throught the village," said Victor Rycroft, police chief.
The thefts occurred mostlly late at night or overnight. Police recommend everyone lock their vehicles at night.

Police are asking that anyone who may have items missing from their vehicles or information on the thefts to contact them at 386-4561.
