A new book by a local author is teaching kids the importance of doing good deeds.
"The Lemonade Ripple," was written by Paul Reichert, a summer resident of Alexandria Bay. The book tells the story of a young girl, who starts a lemonade stand in hopes to raising money for a friend in need. Reichart is a lawyer by day, and in his spare time, is a cartoonist and author.
The book was inspired by the Foundation for Community Betterment's annual "Paddle for Betterment," (our coverage of the event can be found here) an event that helps raise money to help North County people in need of assistance.
Reichart hopes the book will inspire a new generation of philanthropists.
"There's all sorts of tips to get them involved; have fun, don't be discouraged, do whatever you think you can. Every little bit helps. It's a good way to spend your time, and meet friends, and have a lot of fun," says Reichart.
If you'd like to read the book, you can check it out at the MacSherry Library in Alexandria Bay, or the Flower Memorial Library in Watertown. The book is also available at several local stores, and online at www.lemonaderipple.com. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to benefit the Foundation for Community Betterment.
