A water main break forced the town of Fine to shut off the water on Wednesday.

For some businesses, that meant shutting their doors on the orders of the state Health Department.

The story was the same at Clifton-Fine Central School, which was forced to close on Wednesday.

On Thursday and Friday, with a boil water advisory, water fountains were off limits.

Clifton-Fine Hospital on Wednesday had to bring in a tanker of water to flush toilets.

The hospital used bottled water for food preparation and drinking.

Town Supervisor Mark Hall says the problem is in the pipes.

The distribution system was installed in 1950 and the filtration system is at least 20 years old.

The town is hoping for a $2 million state grant and a loan for improvements.

It remains to be seen if the town will get the money.
