JCC Celebrates Arbor Day With Tree Planting

The campus got a little greener Friday at Jefferson Community College.

A catalpa tree was one of five trees planted around campus to help celebrate Arbor Day. 

A JCC organization, Students for Sustainable Campus, has been selling seedlings this week to help pay for the trees.

They got help from the group, Tree Watertown, and city and county officials.

"This tree will grow over 50 to 60 feet high over the years and will be here for many, many decades," said Bill Christopherson, chair of Tree Watertown.

"JCC really is dedicated to making our campus a greener place," said Megan Pistolese of Students for Sustainable Campus.

One tree was planted in the campus quad while the other four were placed in a planting bed along the Interstate 81 boundary.
