JCC Professor Retiring After 41 Years

It was baseball or teaching.

Dick Young chose Jefferson Community College 41 years ago and has never looked back.

"I just like the place. I like the environment," he said.

Young turned down a professional baseball contract to teach speech and communication at JCC.

Now, after helping countless students to a better future, he's retiring as the longest serving member of the campus community.

"And we're about helping people to improve and get better, and I see that every day here and it's been one of the things that's kept me coming back," he said.

Young's last day on campus is coming up later this month.

He admits that day is going to be tough.

"I've come to work every day for 41 and a half years so I will be doing something that I've never done before," he said.

Young has retirement plans centering on his twin passions - writing up Watertown's history in baseball and his memories about JCC.
