JRC Facing Tough Financial Times

Jefferson Rehabilitation Center in Watertown is worried about sequestration, but the agency also has another problem that's just as troubling.

The proposed state budget would slash $1.1 million from the agency's budget.

That could mean layoffs and a reduction in services for people with disabilities.

"We've got people that need 24/7 care. Are we going to be able to meet their health and safety needs as effectively as we are now? We're still going to try to do that, but with less funding. We have programs right now that are in deficits that we already operate and this will just add on to that deficit and push the agency further into debt," said JRC Executive Director Howard Ganter.

Meanwhile, JRC is waiting to find out how sequestration could affect the agency.

JRC has $6.7 million worth of contracts with Fort Drum.

The automatic budget cuts are expected to be felt deeply in the defense community.
