An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail is accused of assaulting four corrections officers Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's department said 35 year old Demearie Gulledge of 644 Huntington Street in Watertown attacked the officers as they were leaving his cell.

According to detectives, Gulledge was angry at officers for removing an ornamental shell from his dreadlocks.

Officials said Gulledge had refused their orders to remove the shell himself.

All four officers taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment of cuts and bruises.

One officer suffered a bite to the back of his neck and his ear.

All officers were treated and released.

Gulledge was arraigned in Watertown City Court, where bail was set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.

He had been arrested earlier Tuesday on a charge of third-degree criminal mischief.

Deputies say he allegedly slashed a car's tires on June 1 on Eastern Boulevard in the town of Pamelia.

Gulledge allegedly slashed two of the car's tires, leaving about a one-inch gash in each.

He was originally committed to jail on $5,000 cash bail.
