Jefferson County Budget Approved; No Tax Rate Increase

Jefferson County's budget for the coming year has been passed and with no increase in the tax rate.

After a public hearing on the spending plan Tuesday night, legislators approved the $191 million budget ironed out last week by its finance and rules committee.

Even though the tax rate for 2012 remains the same, the overall tax levy has gone up, which is the total amount the county collects in taxes. That's because the overall value of property has increased.
