Jefferson County Fair Offers Plenty Of New Attractions

The fairgrounds look sparse now, but as Fair President Bob Simpson told us, it's not going to be that way for long.

"You'll be amazed at how when you come down here tomorrow and everything will be up and running," he said.

Simpson showed us around the grounds on his golf cart and went over what's new at the fair - everything from moving the rabbits and chickens out of the back of the fair building to the 120-foot tall ride, Speed.

"The Speed ride, not only does it go around, but the cars also go around. So you're upside down," said Simpson.

And the biggest new event is Disc-Connected K-9s - a free frisbee dog performance featuring world champion dogs.

"If you love dogs or if you like frisbee or if you just want to have some great entertainment, we're here," said Lawrence Frederick of Disc-Connected K-9s.

In addition to the new things at the fair, there are always those familiar favorites.

"Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, smoky pie," said George Day.

Smokey's Barbeque has been at the fair for 19 years and George Day says Jefferson County has a taste for something in particular.

"It's a pulled pork town," he said.

The fair will run from Tuesday to Sunday.

Simpson says after 17 years on the board, he's learned one thing - there's always something new at the fair.
