Jefferson County Lawmakers To Discuss Synthetic Drug Law

Jefferson County legislators were meeting Tuesday night to discuss a law banning synthetic drugs.

The new law would make selling or possessing substances such as bath salts or synthetic marijuana illegal.

Although similar regulations already exist on the state and federal levels,  local law enforcement wants the county to pass its own law.

"Basically, we want to give the law enforcement the tool that they need - and they've come and asked that this would be something that would be good to give them - what they need to prosecute, and we want to give them every tool that they have available," said county legislator James Nabywaniec.

The new law was scheduled to be discussed at 6:30 p.m. at the historic courthouse in Watertown.
