Jefferson Water & Soil District Faces ShortfallThe Jefferson County Water and Soil Conservation District is facing some problems. The district is looking at a possible budget shortfall of over $25,000. On top of that, board members say former executive director Brian Wohnsiedler borrowed restricted money to help keep the organization going. As a result, the state has froze some funds while it waits for results of an audit. Board member Mike Behling says the organization may be looking at a round of layoffs in order to survive. "We may have to lay off another person or two," Behling said, "however there's also a plan among staff to try to pick up more grants and to do more business." Behling also says the district will likely ask Jefferson County for additional loans. |
