Jobless Rate Drops Across North Country
There's some good news to report on the north country's unemployment front.
Fewer people were looking for jobs last month compared to July as well as in August 2012.
The state released its unemployment figures Tuesday.
According to the Labor Department, Jefferson County's jobless rate dropped from 8.5 percent in July to 8.3 percent in August.
The rate dropped .5 percent from August 2012.
In Lewis County, the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent last month.
That compares to 8.4 percent in July and 8.6 percent in August 2012.
In St. Lawrence County, the jobless rate was 9.1 percent in August.
That's down from 9.4 percent in July and 10.3 percent the year before.
The state's unemployment rate dropped .1 percent between July and August to 7.5 percent.
It was down from 8.5 percent in August 2012.
