The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties from 11 p.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The forecast calls for 4 to 7 inches of snow overnight and 5 to 10 inches on Tuesday.

Storm could leave between 8 and 16 inches of snow before it's over.

7 News meteorologist Joe LaPlante says the biggest accumulations will be seen in the extreme southern portions of Jefferson and Lewis counties.

The NWS says heavy lake effect snow will result in difficult driving conditions, with visibility as slow as a half mile at times.

The snow comes as unseasonably cold temperatures begin to grip the region.

Lows are expected to drop to zero to -5 overnight.

On Tuesday, the forecast calls for a high of 5 to 10 above.
