Last Minute Shoppers Hit Stores for "Super Saturday"

Parking lots packed with cars, cash registers with long lines; these are scenes typically seen on Black Friday.

But it wasn't Black Friday, it was "Super Saturday," one of the last big shopping days before Christmas.

"Traffic has been very busy. We opened at 5:00 a.m. and it has been steady all morning," says Sandy Cole of Watertown's J.C. Penney store.

The day has retailers hoping to draw in procrastinators needing to finish up their holiday shopping.  In terms of sales, retailers say it's not Black Friday, but it's close.

"It's not quite as busy, but it ranks up there.  I think it's our second busiest day of the year," says Mark Raycraft of the Watertown KMart.

Adding to the chaos for stores, the fact that Christmas falls on a Sunday.

"With Christmas falling on a weekend, it's making our schedules a little more hectic," adds Cole.

If you missed out on Super Saturday, there's still some time before the big day.  But that does mean there likely will be even more cars in the parking lot and longer lines at the cash registers.
