Sackets Harbor battlefield manager Connie Barone has been keeping a big secret: the newest American Girl Doll will hail from Sackets Harbor.

"We're really amazed that of all the War of 1812 locations across the country, they did decide to choose Sackets Harbor," Barone said.

Barone has been helping the popular American Girl brand write the story of Caroline for three and a half years.

Caroline is a 9 year old girl living in Sackets Harbor during the War of 1812.

The new doll is one in a long line of historic dolls from American Girl that come with a series of books, books that Hay Memorial librarian Toni Ellinger says offer a good story along with a history lesson.

"When you read American Girl books, you connect with the girl, but then you also connect with the time," Ellinger said.

The hope is that the books will spark more tourist interest in Sackets Harbor history.

Many of the buildings from the War of 1812 in Sackets Harbor no longer exist, but there's plenty of history,

"I think this is a great audience to draw to Sackets Harbor and when they get here, they're going to find we have such a wealth of history," Barone said.

The Caroline doll won't come cheap. They cost $105 dollars and come with one book.

They'll be available in September.
