A Lyons Falls man tried to eat his way out of a drug charge when he and a companion were stopped by police.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies say they tried to stop a car driven by 41 year old David Daniels on Route 12D in Lyons Falls.

Daniels failed to comply at first. When he finally stopped, police said they discovered him eating something in an attempt to hide it.

The substance later turned out to be the drug Tramadol.

A passenger, 26 year old Jody Kirk, also of Lyons Fall, was found to have morphine sulfate and marijuana in his possession.

Daniels was charged with having a broken windshield, failure to comply with a lawful order, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, having a controlled substance in a non-original container, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

He was arraigned in Lyonsdale town court and committed to county jail without bail.

Kirk was charged with possession of marijuana, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and having a controlled substance in a non-original container.

He was also arraigned in Lyonsdale town court. He was released to a third party.
