Lewis County Trails Coordinator Suspended Pending Sheriff's Investigation

Lewis County trails coordinator Robert Diehl was suspended without pay this week.

County Manager David Pendergast says Diehl was suspended at the end of the day Tuesday pending an investigation by the sheriff's department.

Pendergast wouldn't give any reason for the suspension or the investigation, saying it's county policy not to comment on personnel matters until they're resolved.

Pendergast said Diehl has been trails coordinator for six years.

The trails coordinator's office is closed, Pendergast said, and any day-to-day matters will be handled by other county staff.

Neither Diehl nor Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli were available for comment.

The trails coordinator is responsible for developing a network of trails, primarily for snowmobiles and ATVs, including finding money to fund any new trails.
