Library Raises Money By Selling Autographed Books
A collection of best-selling novels is for sale at Flower Memorial Library in Watertown. Each and every book is autographed.
They're by some of the world's most famous authors: James Patterson, Nora Roberts -- the list goes on.
"These books are actually touched by the authors," said Yvonne Reff, who organized the sale, "so you're not just buying a book that was produced by the millions, you're buying a book that they actually touched and signed. And to me it's like a piece of history."
The most expensive is by famous photographer Annie Leibovitz and is listed at $250.
There's also a book about Funny Cide -- the race horse from Sackets Harbor -- which all of the owners signed. Many of the books were donated to the library in the past few years.
With the library's annual book sale coming up in October, Reff says they wanted to kickstart their fundraising.
"We have about 50 of them -- 50 to 70 books -- and we thought now's a time we'll try and sell them and see if we can get some money for the library," Reff said.
Whether collecting books, buying them for gifts, or having them just to flip through, everyone has a reason to buy them.
Jean Jacob bought two signed books by Nora Roberts for her daughter-in-law.
"Nora Roberts is Cheryl's favorite author and she has all of Nora Roberts' books," Jacob said, "and I thought these would be kind of special because they're both autographed."
Six of the books have been sold so far. The rest will be for sale until every book is gone.
