Lobo Becomes Member Of Jefferson County Sheriff's Department

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is welcoming a new member into its ranks.

Meet 14 month old Lobo, a German shepard.

Thanks to a grant, the department was able to purchase him for $6,500 earlier this this month

Lobo will begin training as a narcotics dog in a couple of weeks.

His handler is Deputy Jeff Froelich.

"Lobo just had the characteristics.  He was physically capable of doing the things that we want him to do and he has the disposition that we needed...both to work as a K-9 and to do demonstrations in schools," said Froelich.

Lobo's training will take several months.

He's expected to be certified in September.
