Local Governments Get Help Dealing With Property Tax Cap

The state-wide property tax cap sounded simple enough, but it has turned out to be anything but.

On Thursday, local government officials got some help in dealing with the cap.

This year's local government conference in Watertown featured several sessions on how the tax cap affects local governments.

"For small communities it was quite a struggle last year. It came on quick and to understand how they could do it and how they could handle it," said Mike Yerdon, chair of the Tug Hill Commission.

The daylong conference at Jefferson Community College drew about 700 local government officials from several counties.
