Local Streams Being Stocked With Trout

This kind of weather probably doesn't put you in the mood to go fishing, but when you're ready, there should be plenty of fish for you to catch.

That's thanks to the state Department of Environmental Conservation and local sportsmen volunteers.

They're stocking streams around the area with brown trout and brook trout.

More than 7,800 fish were released into public waters Monday alone.

“They don’t reproduce well so this way it’s nice fishing for the sportsmen,” said volunteer Carlton Goodwin.

In all, about 12,000 trout will be stocked around Jefferson County by the end of May.

Trout fishing season runs through October 15.
