Locals Take Snow Storm In Stride

When a snow storm hits the north country, people like Mark Scordo know how to deal with it.

We caught up with him outside of Walmart in the town of Watertown early Friday afternoon.

He had just bought a cartful of groceries.

"You never know how long you're going to be snowed in," he said.

Most north country school districts cancelled classes.

However, Copenhagen Central School stayed open for half the day.

"It's not anything we're not used to here. We wake up in the morning, we look at the radar, we talk amongst ourselves - the superintendents. All of us in Lewis County spoke this morning and it didn't look like we were going to get that much snow," said Superintendent Scott Connell.

The storm is part of a larger blizzard which is hitting the Northeast - particularly New England.

The system is expected to dump up to a foot of snow in some parts of Jefferson and Lewis counties and even more in St. Lawrence County before the storm winds down after midnight Saturday.
