Longtime Jefferson Legislator Gino Zando Dies
Gino Zando, a longtime member of the Jefferson County legislature, died Friday morning at Carthage Area Hospital.
Zando, 82, retired from the legislature in December 2011. He was one of the original members of the legislature when it transitioned from the old Jefferson County Board of Supervisors in 1996.
Zando represented District 6 on the legislature, which takes in the Carthage area along with part of Fort Drum, and served on all four of the legislature's oversight committees. He was a former mayor of Deferiet.

County administrator Robert Hagemann recalled Zando Friday as a man who was "a boss and a friend."
Zando was always "making sure the people's money was being spent wisely," Hagemann said.
Funeral arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
Calling hours are set for 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home, with the funeral Monday at 11 am at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Deferiet.
