Lowville Legion Plans Flag Day Disposal Ceremony

The American Legion in Lowville is collecting unserviceable American flags and giving them the respectful retirement they deserve.

Those are flags that are too torn, faded or old to fly.

On Flag Day, which is this June 14, Legionnaires will respectfully dispose of the flags in a ceremony.

"It's so important that a flag, to show the proper respect when it's no longer serviceable, to dispose of it properly," said Legion Commander Lee Hinkleman.

"What we do at the Legion here and Legions throughout the country is, we'll have a ceremony that actually honors the flag, shows respect for the flag," he said

VFWs and Marine Corp Leagues all over America also practice this same Flag Day tradition.
