Lowville Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing From Post Office

A former Natural Bridge Post Office employee pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to stealing over $21,000 from the U.S. Postal Service.

Federal prosecutors say 35 year old Erin Woolschlager of Lowville admitted to cashing 105 money orders, depositing the money in her checking account and using it to pay bills and make purchases.

The money orders totaled over $14,372.42. Woolschlager also admitted to embezzling another $6,500 from the post office.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 24. Woolschlager faces up to 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000.

Officials say they began investigating Woolschlager in March 2010 when they noticed problems in the way money orders were handled.
