Lt. Governor Visits Watertown in Support of DNA Databank ExpansionLieutenant Governor Robert Duffy was in Watertown Friday, talking about Governor Cuomo's proposal to expand New York's DNA databank, a move that supporters say, would transform the criminal justice system. The plan would require DNA samples from anyone convicted of a non-traffic misdemeanor. "For those who claim that this is intrusion, I think the ultimate intrusion is when someone is victimized. In that case the scales should be on those victims, and this legislation does that," said the Lt. Governor. The proposal has cleared the Senate, but still needs to be passed in the Assembly. "I support that bill, as soon as that bill comes out, it's a 'yes,'" said Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R-122nd Assembly District). If enacted, the governor's proposal would taken effect on October 1st.
