Lugo Acquitted In ATM Theft Case

A 24 year old Dekalb man has been found not guilty of stealing an ATM from the St. Lawrence University bookstore.

It took the 8 woman, 4 man jury about two hours to acquit Joseph Lugo of felony grand larceny charges in St. Lawrence County Court.

Lugo and co-defendant, 22 year old Brandon Crandall of Canton, were accused of ripping a 265-pound ATM from Brewer Bookstore in November 2012.

Lugo later fled the area and was apprehended in Louisiana.

Only $18,000 of the $35,000 in the ATM was recovered by police.

Crandall, who testified against Lugo in the trial, pleaded guilty to grand larceny and tampering with evidence charges in July and was placed on interim probation.
