A Lisbon man was charged with animal cruelty after state police say they found 27 animals dead at his former residence.

Police say they found 18 dead chickens in a coop containing no food or water, nine dead rabbits locked in cages with no food and water, and an emaciated turkey in poor health at the former residence of Stephen Weston, 42, on State Route 310 in the Town of Madrid. Weston now lives in Lisbon.

Police say Weston neglected the animals and failed to provide food for the 28. Weston was charged with 28 counts of Cruelty to Animals by Failing to Provide Proper Sustenance and is scheduled to appear in Madrid Town Court on March 25 at 7:00 pm.
