Maggie's On The River Loses Liquor License

A Watertown bar and restaurant, which made headlines after a recent stabbing incident, is no longer allowed to serve alcohol.

The New York State Liquor Authority announced Thursday that it did not renew the liquor license for Maggie's On The River.

7 News was unable to immediately reach anyone at the Newell Street business for comment.

According to William Crowley, a spokesman for the liquor authority, Maggie's lost its license for two reasons.

Crowley said the first reason involves the business' failure to apply for a renewal of its liquor license.

Its license expired January 31, but Maggie's continued to serve alcohol until the liquor authority stopped it on February 3, Crowley said.

Crowley said the other reason for denial was because police are called to the business on a regular basis  to break up fights and disperse crowds of intoxicated people.

On January 8, police were called to Maggie’s after 22 year old Marta Rapp allegedly stabbed two women in the leg.

Crowley said the business can submit a request for reconsideration to the three-member state liquor authority board.
