A 24 year old Dekalb man who allegedly stole a bank ATM from the St. Lawrence University bookstore in November has been jailed without bail.

Joseph Lugo appeared in St. Lawrence County Court in Canton Friday morning on a two-count indictment charging him with third degree grand larceny and tampering with physical evidence.

Lugo was extradited from Louisiana, where he was picked by authorities on a warrant.

Lugo and 21 year old Brandon Crandall of Canton allegedly stole the ATM -- which contained $35,000 -- from where it was bolted to the floor in the bookstore lobby.

The machine was recovered in a field off Sykes Road in Canton, where it had been dumped.

Police also recovered half the stolen money when Crandall was arrested a few days after the theft.

Similar charges remain pending for Crandall.

Lugo will reappear in court May 6.
