Man Accused Of Assaulting Fellow Inmate

A man who was being held in the St. Lawrence County Jail is accused of assaulting another inmate.

Sheriff's deputies arrested 29 year old Joseph Belile, formerly of Massena.

He had been in jail on a misdemeanor criminal contempt charge, but now he's also facing a felony count of second-degree assault.

While Belile was being arrested for allegedly assaulting a fellow inmate, deputies discovered he had been sending letters to a woman who has an order of protection against him.

He was then charged with second-degree attempting criminal contempt and aggravated family offense.

Belile is currently being held in the jail without bail.
