Man Accused Of Embezzling From LaFargeville Business

A former accountant is accused of embezzling more than $95,000 from his employer.

State police arrested 47 year old Peter Briggs of 16 Salmon Meadow Lane in Pulaski.

He's accused of stealing from WD Bach Excavating & Consulting in LaFargeville over an 18-month period.

According to police, Briggs is charged with:

- 1 felony count of second-degree grand larceny

- 77 felony counts of second-degree forgery

- 77 felony counts of first-degree falsifying business records

According to Senior Investigator Rick Hathaway of the state police, Briggs made false business entries and forged checks.

He said the embezzlement was discovered earlier this month after the company performed an internal review of its records.

State police were called in to investigate, which led to Briggs' arrest.

Briggs was fired from his job, Hathaway said.

Briggs was arraigned in LeRay Town Court and ordered held in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.
