Man Accused Of Leading Police On Chase, Damaging Patrol Car
A 20 year old Fort Drum man faces drunk driving and other charges after allegedly leading Watertown police on a chase around the city and damaging a patrol car.
According to police, Christopher Butler of 10332 4th Armored Division Drive, was driving his vehicle without headlights on State Street early Friday morning.
When patrols tried to pull him over, he allegedly failed to stop and instead continued to drive on Indiana Avenue and Ohio Street before finally stopping on Gill Street.
Police said that when they stopped him at 2 a.m., Butler put the vehicle in reverse and got out.
According to police, Butler's Jeep rolled into one of the patrol cars and damaged it.
Butler refused to take a test to determine his blood alcohol content, police said.
He was arrested on a number of charges, including fourth-degree criminal mischief, failure to signal a turn, stop at a stop sign and keep right, as well as speeding.
He was arraigned in Watertown City Court and released.
