Man Admits Hiding Car Used In Fatal Hit & Run
A 48 year old Potsdam man who let his girlfriend hide the car she was driving that struck and killed a pedestrian has agreed to a plea bargain with prosecutors.
Stephen Coates pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of attempted tampering with physical evidence.
Coates allowed 44 year old Laurel Randall to hide her damaged 2007 Chevrolet in his 4 Missouri Avenue garage.
Randall admitted to felony vehicular manslaughter for hitting 59 year old Fuli Wu as she walked along May Road March 30, 2013 and then leaving the scene.
Coates will be sentenced May 5 while Randall faces 1 to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced the same day.
