Man Arrested In Heroin Bust In Watertown

Bail is set at $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond for a Syracuse man accused of having several bundles of heroin in a Watertown hotel room.

Police arrested 20 year old Deon Whitehead of 201 Rich Street.

He's charged with a felony count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell as well as unlawful possession of marijuana.

Watertown police were called to the Best Western Carriage House Inn on Monday following a complaint about an odor of marijuana.

When patrols arrived, officials said they found Whitehead and 23 year old Shataya Kirkland of Syracuse in possession of marijuana.

The Metro Jeff Drug Task Force was called in to investigate and officials said they found four bundles of heroin in the room.

The heroin has a street value of $2,000, officials said.

Kirkland was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and issued an appearance ticket.

Whitehead is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
