A Richville man is in trouble after authorities searched a river for the driver of a vehicle involved in a rollover accident.

St. Lawrence County sheriff deputies say their investigation revealed 28 year old Mark Tripp was the driver, but not before authorities searched the nearby Oswegatchie River for what they believed was a missing driver.

The accident was Sunday afternoon on the River Road in the town of Dekalb. Deputies say they feared the driver was ejected from the vehicle and could have landed in the river.

Dive teams from Ogdensburg and Parishville assisted in the search, along with state police and fire and rescue crews from Richville, Dekalb and Gouverneur.

Tripp was charged with third degree falsely reporting an incident, speed not reasonable and prudent, unreasonable speed, no seat belt, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

He was released to appear in Dekalb town court at a later date.
