Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Watertown Bank

A 22 year old former Watertown man is headed for prison after pleading guilty to bank robbery and drug charges.

Charles Carter Jr., who used to live on Gotham Street and now resides in Baltimore, Maryland, appeared in Jefferson County Court Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty to third-degree robbery and third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance.

In court, Carter confessed to forcibly stealing $2,100 from a teller at Carthage Federal Savings and Loan in downtown Watertown on March 5.

After the robbery, Carter took a taxi from the bank and got into a rented vehicle.

He was later arrested in Baltimore.

Carter also confessed to tying to sell cocaine on January 11.

Carter faces 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison for the robbery.

He's expected to serve a concurrent 3 year prison term on the drug charge.

Carter also faces two years post-release supervision.

As part of his sentence, Carter is expected to be ordered to pay full restitution.

Sentencing is set for January 6.
