Mannsville Man Donates Winnings To Local Groups
A Mannsville farmer won $5,000, but it's the Belleville Fire Department and the Sackets Harbor Booster Club that will be getting the money.
Harold Nohle won a drawing called America's Farmers Grow Communities.
According to the rules, Nohle can't keep it, but has to donate it to organizations of his choice.
He split the money between the fire department and the booster club.
And the fire department can use the money.
"Well, in a small community, you never know when you might need them," Nohle said. "It costs a lot of money to run trucks and stuff like that."
"A small department like this, $2,500 is hard to come by," Fire Chief Scott Lennox said.
"We have a barbecue this weekend and we'll raise money off that, but this is like doing three barbecues.
The money will be used to upgrade ice water rescue gear and help pay for a new fire truck.
