Many Communities Digging Out As Storm Continues
Several towns and villages declared states of emergency to keep cars off the road and give plows a chance to keep roads clear of snow.
At least one of those communities, West Carthage, was able to dig itself out overnight.
Mayor Scott Burto said "the streets in the village are pretty clean." Burto was was interviewed live by phone on 7 News This Morning.
Burto said a state of emergency and parking ban are still in effect in the village, but the travel ban expired at 6 a.m.
"Within the village, the crews were able to get out last night with the ban at 7 o'clock and really do a good job keeping the streets open for emergency traffic," he said.
Burto said he still recommends people stay off the roads as crews continue to try to keep the streets clean.
"I think people this morning are going to be very surprised over the amount of snow that we received overnight in addition to all day yesterday," Burto said.
