Massena Bridge Work Delayed

Motorists will have to contend with limited access across the deteriorating Parker Avenue Bridge in Massena for at least two more years.

State Department of Transportation officials say the bridge replacement project has been pushed back due to a lack of federal and state funds to do the work.

The outside lanes on the Massena bridge, which spans the Grasse River, have been closed for months after engineers found deteriorating and corroding steel beams due to weather conditions.

Mayor Jim Hidy says he's not very happy with the DOT's decision to delay the bridge project.

DOT spokesman Michael Flick says the bridge will be routinely monitored for any signs of additional deterioration.
