Massena Hospital Moves Forward With $4M Project

Massena Memorial Hospital is going ahead with its nearly $4 million medical office building despite cutting back staff and freezing salaries.

Construction continues on the two-story building across from the hospital - a facility that will eventually house up to a dozen medical practitioners.

Hospital officials say the way to improving the hospital's financial picture is by building a facility that will attract new physicians.

"This is a project that we believe is going to assist us in the immediate future to solving many of our issues that we have with recruiting new physicians to the community," said Charles Fahd, CEO of the hospital.

On Monday, the hospital announced 2 workers will be laid off and some part-time employees will have their hours reduced because the hospital is seeing fewer patients and getting less money in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.
