Massena Plants Not Affected By Alcoa CutbacksAlcoa's Massena operations will be spared cutbacks due to a plan to reduce production announced last week by the aluminum giant. Alcoa officials said last week they were cutting production by 12 percent in response to a global drop in aluminum prices. At the time, officials didn't know how plans would affect the company's plants in Massena. Officials said Monday Alcoa will cut back smelter production at three European plants, close a plant in Tennessee and idle two pot lines at a Texas plant. Preliminary planning for a multi-million dollar modernization project at Massena's Alcoa East plant is moving forward. Alcoa's board of directors are expected to decide whether to move forward with that project by March 2013. Most Popular |
