Massena Town Residents Could See 30 Percent Tax Hike
Massena residents will be digging a little deeper into their pockets next year thanks to a new spending plan that carries a tax increase as high as 30 percent.
The town board adopted the $7 million budget that carries an increase of more than $83 for taxpayers outside the village with a home assessed at $90,000.
The same home inside the village would reflect an increase of $89.
The spending plan collects over $500,000 more in tax revenue than the current budget.
Town officials say the budget, which cuts funding to outside agencies like the library, Humane Society and Chamber of Commerce, also uses more of the fund balance to offset property taxes.
