Tools

A Massena woman is free on her own recognizance after being charged with stealing more than $18,000 from several accounts at the Highland Nursing Home.

Wendy Vice of 597 County Route 40 faces felony charges of third-degree grand larceny, second-degree forgery and first-degree falsifying business records following an audit conducted by the state Attorney General's Medicare Fraud Control Unit.

The alleged embezzlement occurred over a one year period from August 2, 2011 to August 2, 2012 while Vice worked in the nursing home's business office.

Vice is alleged to have taken the money from several nursing home accounts, including a trust account for residents, petty cash and operating accounts and then trying to cover cover up the thefts by making false financial entries.
