Massena Woman Dies From Injuries In December 19 Fire

A Massena woman who was seriously injured in a fire December 19 died of her injuries Wednesday.

MaryAnn "Shirley" Donnelly, 68, of State Route 420 died at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, according to an obituary posted by Phillips Memorial Home.

On December 19, fire officials told 7 News the fire was caused by smoking materials.

Village Fire Chief Thomas Miller said at the time she suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

Donnelly was taken to Massena Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Burlington, he said.

Firefighters were called to 2206A Route 420 at approximately 2:30 a.m. Wednesday after a neighbor spotted flames.

Chief Miller said Donnelly had gotten out of the home on her own and was sitting on the sidewalk when he arrived.

He said a dog died in the fire.

The funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, with calling hours vfrom 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday at Phillips Memorial Home.
