There were a lot of tears, sharing of pictures and emotional hugs during a special mother-daughter reunion more than three decades in the making.

"All the questions that I had to ask her, I could finally ask her," said Sara Eastwood of Massena.

Sara's birth mother,  Sandra Barnette, hadn't seen her daughter in 34 years since turning her over to Social Services custody in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The child, born Christy Lynn Ballard, was about 18 months old.

Sandra hoped her daughter would have a better life.

The two were reunited Saturday in Massena thanks to the help of the social networking site Facebook and a genealogist who lived little more than a mile from where Sara's biological mom lives in Gastonia, North Carolina.

"I thought I was in a dream and was going to wake up until I got my hands on her," said Sandra.

Sara was adopted by a now deceased single mother who discouraged her efforts to locate her birth mother.

But she never gave up hope, even when she moved to Massena four years ago.

Now the reunited family has a lot of catching up to do.

Sandra has learned she has a four year old granddaughter.
