Meet A Westminster Best Of Breed

Unlike most dogs you see in the 7 News studio, this one is NOT up for adoption.

This is Dana. She's a dog from Croghan who won Best of Breed at last week's Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York City.

She's a curly coated retriever who visited the studio Thursday with her owner, Catherine Lewandowski, who runs a kennel on Soft Maple Road.

Lewandowski says in order to qualify for the prestigious show, "you're either invited -- the top dogs of the breed are invited -- or you have to qualify by having a couple major wins" in other shows.

"I hadn't even thought of going with Dana," Lewandowski said,  "but at the National Specialty, she ended up getting three major wins and we qualified."

She said she waited until the last possible day to enter, but was glad she did.

Winning the breed at Westminster automatically qualifies Dana for next year's show, but Lewandowski says she hasn't decided if they will enter.
