The family of a north country native and decorated Marine who was killed in a snowmobile accident in 2006 continues to keep his memory alive.

The 3rd Annual Michael J. Cerroni Memorial 5K Run and Walk is Sunday at 9 a.m. at Maple Street Park in Black River.

Captain Cerroni was a 1995 graduate of Carthage Central School.

The run raises money for scholarships.

"It's a nice way to recognize and memorialize Michael. His friends and family come from far and wide and it's a fun time for everyone to get together," said Cerroni's mother and event co-organizer.

Awards will be given to the person having the most fun and to the owners of the house on the race course with the most patriotic decorations.
